September 11 \u2013 According to His Will<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Scripture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.\u201d

Encouragement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we pray, we usually know what answer we want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want the illness healed. We want the relationship restored. We want the door to open. We want the difficulty removed. And there is nothing wrong with honestly telling God what we desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But prayer also teaches us to surrender those desires to something greater: the will of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First John 5:14 tells us that we can pray with confidence when we ask according to His will. That does not mean we will always know exactly what His will is in every circumstance. It means we can trust that God knows what is best even when we do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus gave us the perfect example in the garden of Gethsemane. He brought His desire honestly before His Father, yet surrendered Himself completely to the Father\u2019s will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can do the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFather, this is what I am asking for. This is what I hope You will do. But more than receiving the answer I want, I want Your will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those words can be difficult to pray because surrender requires trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are placing the outcome into the hands of the One who sees the beginning, the end, and everything in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So pray specifically. Pray expectantly. Pour out your heart to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then leave the answer in His hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His will is always joined with His perfect wisdom, goodness, and love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dear heavenly Father, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank You that I can bring my desires honestly before You. You know the answers I hope for and the burdens I carry. Help me to pray with faith while surrendering every outcome to You. When Your answer is different from what I expected, help me trust Your wisdom and goodness. Above everything I want, teach my heart to desire Your will. In Jesus\u2019 precious name, amen.
