Trusting God When Fear Comes

October 1 — Trusting God When Fear Comes

Scripture

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Psalm 56:3 (ESV)

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” (KJV)

Encouragement

Fear often appears before we have time to prepare for it. A phone call, an unexpected expense, a change in plans, a difficult conversation, or simply wondering what tomorrow will bring can quickly fill our thoughts with worry.

Psalm 56:3 does not say that we will never be afraid. David said, “When I am afraid.” Fear was real—but David knew what to do with it.

He chose to trust God.

Trust does not mean pretending everything is fine. It means reminding ourselves that God is still faithful even when circumstances feel uncertain. We may not know what will happen next, but we know the One who does.

When fear begins to take over your thoughts today, turn it into a reminder to pray. Tell God exactly what concerns you. Then deliberately place that concern into His hands.

You do not have to understand everything before you trust Him.

You simply need to remember who He is.

Prayer

Dear Father,

When fear enters my heart, help me turn quickly to You. Remind me that You know what lies ahead and that nothing surprises You. Help me trust Your wisdom, Your goodness, and Your care for me today. Keep my thoughts focused on You instead of everything that could go wrong.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

First Step Challenge

Write down one thing that is causing you fear or uncertainty today. Underneath it, write:

“I do not know what will happen, but I know God is with me.”

Then give that concern to Him in prayer.

Thought for Today

Fear may tell me what could happen, but trust reminds me who God is.
