Pray with Faith

September 29 – Pray with Faith

Scripture

“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Matthew 21:22 (ESV)

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (KJV)

Encouragement

Jesus connects prayer with faith.

But praying with faith does not mean believing strongly enough that God must give us exactly what we ask for.

Faith is confidence in God.

It trusts His power when the situation seems impossible. It trusts His wisdom when we do not understand. It trusts His goodness when His answer is different from the one we wanted. And it trusts His timing when we are still waiting.

When we pray, we are bringing our requests before the God for whom nothing is impossible.

That should give us confidence to pray boldly.

But faith also allows us to leave the answer with Him.

Think about how often worry follows prayer. We give something to God and then immediately begin trying to figure out how He is going to solve it.

Faith says, “I have prayed. God has heard me. Now I will trust Him.”

That does not mean we stop praying about something or taking whatever steps God has given us to take. It means we stop believing that everything depends upon us.

Perhaps there is something you have been praying about throughout this month.

Bring it to God again today.

Ask Him boldly.

Believe that He is able.

Then trust Him enough to let Him choose the answer.

Our faith is not in a particular outcome.

Our faith is in God.

Prayer

Dear Father,

Thank You that I can come to You believing that You hear me and that nothing is beyond Your power. Strengthen my faith when I am tempted to doubt or worry. Help me pray boldly while trusting You completely with the answer. Whether You say yes, no, or wait, help me believe in Your wisdom, goodness, and love. My faith is not in the outcome I desire; my faith is in You. In Jesus’ precious name, amen.

Thought for Today

Faith does not demand a certain answer; faith trusts the God who answers.
