September 22 – Pray Throughout Your Day
Scripture
“Pray without ceasing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV)
“Pray without ceasing.” (KJV)
Encouragement
At first, “pray without ceasing” can sound impossible.
How can we pray every moment when we have meals to prepare, work to do, people to care for, errands to run, and responsibilities that require our attention?
Paul was not telling believers that they must spend every waking moment with their eyes closed and heads bowed.
He was describing a life in which prayer is an ongoing part of our relationship with God.
Prayer does not have to happen only during a quiet time in the morning or before we go to bed. We can talk with God throughout the day.
When someone comes to mind, pray for them.
When you receive good news, thank God.
When you begin to worry, give the concern to Him.
When you need patience, ask for His help.
When you face a decision, ask for wisdom.
When you recognize something beautiful, praise the Creator.
When you realize you have sinned, confess it.
Prayer can become the natural response of a heart that is continually aware of God.
Those short prayers throughout the day may never be heard by another person, but they keep turning our hearts toward Him.
Walking in prayer means we do not simply visit God for a few minutes each day and then continue without Him.
We walk through the day with Him.
Prayer
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank You that I can talk with You anywhere and at any time. Teach me to make prayer a natural part of my entire day. When needs arise, remind me to pray. When blessings come, remind me to thank You. When I need wisdom or strength, remind me to turn to You. Help me live each day aware of Your presence and dependent upon You. In Jesus’ merciful name, amen.
Thought for Today
Prayer is not only a moment in my day; it can become the way I walk through my day.
