Pray for One Another

September 13 – Pray for One Another

Scripture

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.”
James 5:16a (ESV)

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” (KJV)

Encouragement

Prayer is deeply personal, but it was never meant to be only about ourselves.

James tells believers to “pray for one another.” That simple instruction reminds us that God wants His people to carry each other’s burdens before Him.

Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for someone is pray.

We may not be able to change their circumstances. We may not know what advice to give. We may not have the resources to meet every need.

But we can bring them before the One who does.

When we pray for others, we can ask God to strengthen the weary, comfort the grieving, guide the confused, provide for the needy, restore the wandering, and draw the unsaved to Christ.

Intercession also changes our own hearts. It helps us look beyond our needs and become more aware of what others are carrying.

Is there someone God has placed on your heart today?

Do not only think about them.

Pray for them.

Bring their name before God and ask Him to work in their life according to His wisdom and will.

Prayer

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank You for the privilege of praying for others. Open my eyes to the needs of the people around me, and help me not to become so focused on my own concerns that I forget theirs. Bring specific people to my mind today and teach me to faithfully lift them before You. Please strengthen, comfort, guide, and help them according to Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Thought for Today

When God brings someone to my mind, I can turn that thought into prayer.
