Come Boldly to God

September 8 – Come Boldly to God

Scripture

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (KJV)

Encouragement

Sometimes we hesitate to come to God.

Perhaps we feel ashamed because we have failed Him. Maybe we think we should have handled a situation better. Or perhaps we have prayed about the same need so many times that we wonder if we should bring it to Him again.

Hebrews 4:16 tells us something wonderful: we can draw near to God “with confidence.”

That confidence is not based on how well we have lived or how perfectly we have prayed. The verses before this one point us to Jesus, our great High Priest, who understands our weaknesses and has made the way for us to come to God.

And notice where we are invited to come—the throne of grace.

We come to the One who has all authority and power, yet His throne is described as a place where His children receive mercy and find grace.

When you have failed, come.

When you are hurting, come.

When you need wisdom, come.

When you feel weak, come.

When you do not know what to do next, come.

You do not have to wait until you have everything together before you pray. Because of Jesus, you can approach your heavenly Father with confidence and ask Him for the mercy and grace you need today.

Prayer

Dear gracious heavenly Father,

Thank You that because of Jesus I can come confidently before Your throne of grace. When I am weak, ashamed, worried, or uncertain, remind me that You invite me to come to You. Thank You for Your mercy when I fail and Your grace for every need I face. Help me never to allow fear or shame to keep me from prayer. In Jesus’ gracious name, amen.

Thought for Today

Because of Jesus, I can come confidently to God and find mercy and grace.
