Be Still Before God
Scripture
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10a (ESV)
“Be still and know that I am God.” (KJV)
Encouragement
Prayer is often filled with words.
We tell God what we need. We ask Him for help. We pray for the people we love. We bring Him our worries, questions, and burdens.
But sometimes we also need to be still.
Being still before God reminds us that He is God and we are not. We do not have to solve every problem, understand every circumstance, or know what tomorrow will bring.
We can simply rest in who He is.
In the quiet, we can remember His faithfulness. We can think about His Word. We can surrender the things we have been trying to control and trust them to His hands.
Being still does not mean that nothing is happening. Sometimes God does His deepest work in our hearts when we stop striving and simply sit in His presence.
Today, after you have prayed, take a few quiet moments before you move on with your day.
Be still.
Remember who God is.
And rest in Him.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Quiet my heart before You. Help me to stop striving, worrying, and trying to control the things that belong in Your hands. Teach me to be still in Your presence and remember that You are God. Help me to trust Your wisdom, Your power, and Your care for me today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thought for Today
I can be still because God is in control.
