Walking with God

Pour Out Your Heart

Scripture

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”
Psalm 62:8 (ESV)

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (KJV)

Encouragement

There are times when we do not know what to say when we pray.

Our hearts may be so full of hurt, disappointment, fear, loneliness, or uncertainty that we cannot find the right words. We may even wonder how to begin.

God does not ask us to come to Him with perfectly worded prayers. He simply asks us to come.

Psalm 62:8 tells us to “pour out your heart before him.” That means we can be completely honest with God. We can tell Him what hurts. We can tell Him what frightens us. We can tell Him about our disappointments, questions, hopes, and desires.

There is nothing hidden in our hearts that God does not already know.

Prayer is a safe place to be honest because God is our refuge. He does not turn away when our hearts are hurting. He invites us to bring everything we are carrying and place it before Him.

Maybe today you do not need a long prayer.

Maybe you simply need to sit quietly with God and pour out your heart.

He is listening.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that I never have to hide what is in my heart from You. You already know every fear, hurt, disappointment, and concern I carry. Help me to come honestly before You and pour out my heart in prayer. Thank You for being my refuge and the safe place where I can bring everything I am carrying. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thought for Today

I can pour out my heart to God because He is my refuge.
