Walking with God
August Series: Walking in Gratitude
Scripture
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (KJV)
Encouragement
For thirty-one days, we have intentionally looked for reasons to give thanks. We have thanked God for His faithfulness, His grace, His mercy, His Word, His provision, His guidance, His forgiveness, His presence, and so much more.
But gratitude was never meant to be only a thirty-one-day practice.
God desires thankfulness to become part of the way we live.
Paul tells us that whatever we do—in our words, our actions, and the ordinary responsibilities of everyday life—we can do it in the name of the Lord Jesus while giving thanks to God.
That means gratitude can follow us everywhere.
We can thank God while preparing a meal, driving to work, caring for someone we love, completing an ordinary task, enjoying a beautiful day, or resting at the end of a difficult one. We can thank Him when prayers are answered and continue trusting Him with the ones that are still unanswered.
A grateful heart does not mean life will always be easy. It means we have learned to recognize the goodness of God even when life is not.
As August comes to an end, don’t leave gratitude behind.
Carry it with you.
Keep noticing God’s blessings. Keep remembering His faithfulness. Keep thanking Him in prayer. Keep telling others what He has done.
And tomorrow, when a new month begins, simply keep walking with God—with a heart that has learned to say:
“Thank You, Lord.”
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for walking with me through this month and teaching me to recognize Your goodness in new ways.
Thank You for Your faithfulness, Your mercy, Your provision, Your guidance, Your Word, Your forgiveness, and Your constant presence. Most of all, thank You for Jesus and the salvation You have so graciously provided through Him.
As this month ends, please don’t let my gratitude end with it. Teach me to carry a thankful heart into every day and every season ahead.
May gratitude shape my words, my attitudes, my prayers, and my actions. Help me notice Your blessings, remember Your faithfulness, and give You the glory for every good thing in my life.
I want to keep walking with You—one day at a time, with a heart that is continually grateful.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Thought for Today
August may be ending, but gratitude doesn’t have to. I will keep walking with God with a thankful heart.
